The Strafford Wind Symphony

Welcome to the Strafford Wind Symphony’s 22^nd concert season!   The Strafford Wind Symphony has a way of creating a supportive atmosphere for the creation and enjoyment of music by non-professional musicians. The SWS provides an opportunity for fellowship between musicians from all walks of life.  The commitment to the love of music has kept Strafford Wind Symphony alive and growing.  The fifty-five-member ensemble meets weekly to rehearse at the Rochester Middle School.   

The SWS performs a variety of music literature from well-known favorites to contemporary pieces. The group has performs  in concert throughout New Hampshire,  Massachusetts and Maine.  In 2007, the Wind Symphony collaborated with the Rochester Opera House to offer a concert series that will continue through the 2011-2012 calendar year.  2010 marked the twelfth time that the group has been chosen as a participant in the Boston Festival of Bands held annually at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in June. Most notably however, is our wildly popular Summer concert series.  The Strafford Wind Symphony also has a rich history of passing on the love of music and learning by doing clinics and concerts area schools.

Membership in the group by talented high school students is always encouraged. The Strafford Wind Symphony’s Summer Music Camp Scholarship program in memory of former Musical Director Stan Hettinger helped three high school students further their musicianship by attending music camps in 2011.

The Strafford Wind Symphony’s purpose is to provide opportunities for enhanced growth and  life – long musical expression through challenging musical experiences for its members, musical educational assistance for younger musicians, and the performance of concerts aimed at entertaining a wide range of audiences, supporting the history and heritage of the American Community Band.
